About Amader Gram ICT4D Project:
In an experiment in knowledge transfer to the poor, Amader Gram is building knowledge society in twenty villages of Bagerhat and Khulna in southwest Bangladesh by providing appropriate knowledge and ICT intervention that facilitates both skill transfer and employment creation and has enabled the villagers to get information that they need and can use to improve their lives. The entire project draws its sustenance from the holistic philosophy of rural development, which emphasizes integrated pro-poor, pro-women, pro-nature orientation to development and community ownership of technological tools against personal or community ownership, and encourages collective action for spread of technology. The bottom up exercise involves local youths to gather information, and provide access through Gyan Kendra (Knowledge Centers) in different villages. The 100,000 Euro Prize recognizes Grameen's outstanding achievement in the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to improve people's lives.
