PANOS - Bangladesh Media Awards: Fellowship on PRSP
Panos Institute Bangladesh invites print and broadcast journalists from the five divisions of Barisal, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi and Sylhet to compete for awards offered to features on the subject of poverty in Bangladesh.
Aspiring candidates should submit published/broadcast features on various aspects of poverty reduction strategy. Every month, from September to November 2006, three entries from each of the five divisions will be eligible for an award. Each entry will be judged on relevance, criticality, rigour and intended impact.
Entries should have been published in a leading local newspaper (and preferably reproduced in a national newspaper) or broadcast in a national television/radio channel. All entries (the newspaper issue containing the feature of print journalists, or the cassette or CD of the specific program of journalists from the broadcast media) must reach the Panos Bangladesh office (address given below) within a week of their appearance. Broadcast journalists must in addition inform the Panos Bangladesh office about their proposed entries at least one day before the broadcast so that it can be watched. Please call, or send sms or email, about when and on which channel the programme is going to be aired.
There is no restriction on the number of entries a journalist may send. A total of 45 (forty-five) entries may be awarded. Each award is worth Taka 4500 (four thousand five hundred). The awards are inclusive of tax payable in the country. Award winning journalists need to arrange for own tax payments accruing on these incomes.
Aspiring journalists must keep their respective editors or the concerned authority informed of their submissions. They should provide their contact details, including email, mobile, home and work telephone numbers and postal addresses.
The names of winners for a particular month shall be announced on the 20th day of the following month through press releases to selected local and national media. The results will also be posted on the Panos South Asia website (www.panossouthasia.org).
No media advertisement is planned for these awards, except for announcements on the Panos website. Participants and local organizers of Panos workshops in divisional towns, scheduled in August-September 2006, are requested to kindly circulate this message amongst fellow journalists in respective divisions. A press release for local newspapers will be prepared and circulated at the time of the mentioned workshops and sent to the district level newspapers by email or fax or courier.
These awards and fellowships are made available as part of a global programme titled Raising Debate: Transparency and Ownership in Poverty Reduction Strategies.
Note Well: Details about the fellowships for work on the same subject applicable for journalists across the country will be announced in late November. Applicants for fellowships from five divisions will be judged and chosen based on their above mentioned entries. Six fellowships, each of about Taka 45000 each in worth plus a maximum travel grant of Taka 20000, will run from January of 2007 to May of 2007
