Case study on Kaoraid, Gazipur

In a country where almost half of its total population lives on less than one dollar a day and ignorance is pervasive, it is not easy to go ahead with such an ambitious plan of 100 percent sanitation.The local authorities in some villages in Gazipur sought the help of religious leaders, teachers and women representatives in the Union Parishad to convince the people about its benefit. Local musical and drama groups were used to motivate the people. A highlight of the programme will be to provide improved toilet facilities for women which is rare in Bangladesh.

Market of Beggars |
Shahjahan Ali, 65, has just come to the Railway Colony grounds in Shahjahanpur to sell about 2 kilograms of rice he collected by begging all day long. About 30-40 destitute people have also gathered at the 'market of beggars.' The only thing sold in this market is rice. The price is cheaper by Tk 2 to Tk 4 per kilogram. Slum-dwellers buy this 'mixed' rice from the beggars.

If we are to genuinely work for social change, what direction should developmental education go in? Teach local people about the fruits of good nutrition, family planning, education of their daughters. That is extremely important and is largely being attempted. What about teaching people (particularly development workers) to look for other options besides aid? What of creating role models of Bangladeshis running international developmental organizations, and giving these Bangladeshis the support and the clout necessary for them to succeed? .

formulated the National Strategy for Economic
Growth, Poverty Reduction and Social Development,
equivalent to the I-PRSP. There is still
now not reflected the majority marginalized
benefit. It is questioned for designing
with conventional and subjective approach
to look the peoples reality; but to see
and implement objectively as local reality
and need.
