Climate Change Reality in Bangladesh, testimony of victims as witness
Duration: 7:05 min
This documentary portrays the testimonies and climate hearings of victims collected from the spots of aggrieved southern districts of Bangladesh. To make this documentary, from February 2007 to October 2009 we visited Khulana, Jessore, Shoronkhula, Cox's Bazar, Kutubdia etc places and recorded the grassroots voices that expressed the reality of climate change and suffering of local people.
‘Shahjahan Siraj’ and his team talked with a many climate victims in many places. The voices used in this documentary has been sorted from huge collection considering the important parameters and effects like flood, storms, salinity, sea level rising, erosion etc. The motivation to make this documentary is to discover true grassroots reality along with discovering natural and environmental changes. However it visualises climate change impacts in life and livelihood that changing the life struggle dimension and human suffering, particularly the life of rural poor.
We surprised; parallel to one group of international community, the most of local policy makers try to explain the “poverty for climate change” as “economical poverty”, but it is not true. They don't care and or don't want to understand grassroots shocking reality and suffering. Our observation, the grassroots poor gravely are becoming poorer, marginalised are becoming more marginalised. But grassroots victims don’t know why has the climate been abruptly changing, why has suffering been coming! Why frequently flood and storms are attacking them. Most of victims consider, it is a curse of nature, cruse of God! They don’t have objection! The innocent victims don’t have resentment!
However, Bangladesh has been identified one of most vulnerable climate change victim country of the world. The main objective of the documentary is to present the Bangladeshi reality in the global stage that international community can understand the grassroots reality, however cam take effective initiative, decision for effective policy making and implementation to save the climate victims as well as our lovely planet.
